Tickets are $2 for students, $3 for Lafayette faculty and staff and for students at LVAIC schools, and $6 for the public. They can be obtained by calling the Williams Center box office at (610) 330-5009.

Directed by Michael O’Neill, associate professor of English and director of theater, the play is set in a town on Norway’s southern coast in 1882. Ibsen’s comic masterpiece exposes popular distrust of science as idiocy when the discoveries of a provincial town doctor threaten to destroy a growing local economy—until politicians and business leaders step in to cover up an environmental catastrophe that cannot be contained.

This powerful indictment of society’s clueless disdain for scientific discovery has lost none of its deep passion or any of its great humor through a century of nuclear weaponry, global warming, uncontrollable oil spills, and politicians on the take.

The production is supported in part by Lafayette’s Mellon Environmental Studies program, which is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
